CUA falls to Juniata in conference regular season finale
KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Cardinals concluded regular season
Landmark Conference action on Sunday with a 3-1 loss to first place
Juniata on the campus of Merchant Marine Academy. CUA dropped
the first two sets, but battled back to force a fourth set before
falling to the Eagles.
Juniata took the first set rather easily 25-11 and the Eagles also
won the second set by a 25-17 score. CUA did not go down
without a fight though, as the Cardinals took the third set
25-22. In the fourth set CUA pushed Juniata to the limit
before ultimately falling 25-21.
Following Sunday's action the Cardinals sit at 15-12 overall
and 4-2 in the conference, while the Eagles improve to 23-3 overall
and 6-0 in conference action.
Individually CUA was led by Claudia Jean with 11 kills and 12 digs
as well as Michaela Carroll with 28 assists and ten digs.
Kristina Purcell added 19 digs, while Katie Chefalas totaled nine
kills and eight digs.
For Juniata Steph Strauss handed out a match-best 47 assists,
while Kelsey Fuller totaled 15 kills and Libby Morrison added 17
digs.
CUA will return to the court on Wednesday when the Cardinals make
the short trip across town to take on Gallaudet. The match is
slated for a 7:00 start.
