CUA drops pair of matches at home to Marymount, F&M
WASHINGTON – The Cardinals volleyball team suffered a pair
of tough losses on Saturday afternoon inside the DuFour Center as
CUA (5-4) fell to Marymount 3-1 and Franklin & Marshall
3-1. Michaela Carroll had a solid day for the Cardinals with
34 assists and 18 digs in the two matches.
In the opening match versus Marymount, the Cardinals fell in the
first set 25-17 before battling back to win the second 25-23.
Set number three went to the visitors as Marymount won 25-19 and
the Saints then went on to take set number four by a 25-21
score.
Michaela Carroll registered a double-double in the match with 13
assists and 11 digs, while Claudia Jean added 11 kills and nine
digs.
Katie Chefalas contributed 12 digs and two kills and Bridget
Kulesh and Tess O’Leary both totaled five kills. Kulesh
also recorded three blocks in the match.
In the nightcap CUA fell to Franklin & Marshall 25-15 in the
first set and 25-17 in the second. The Cardinals battled back
to take the third set, 25-18, but the Diplomats were able to
outlast CUA and take the fourth set 25-19.
Carroll racked up 21 assists in the match to go along with seven
digs, while Chefalas recorded 11 digs and three kills. Jean
once again had double-digit kills with 15, to go along with seven
digs and Kulesh added seven kills and a dig.
Megan Himler recorded four digs in the match and Ines Zanotti
added seven assists and a pair of kills.
CUA continues its homestand on Tuesday, September 21 when the
Cardinals welcome McDaniel to the DuFour Center. The match is
slated to begin at 7:00.
