Pair of Cardinals earn All-Landmark Conference recognition
WASHINGTON – Sophomores Claudia Jean and Kristina Purcell
were named to the 2010 All-Landmark Conference Team, it was
announced on Tuesday. Jean received first team recognition,
while Purcell was honored with her second straight selection to the
second team.
Claudia Jean had a terrific season for the Cardinals, leading the
entire Landmark Conference in kills with 427, good for an average
of 3.65 per game, as well as points with an average of 4.06 per
game.
The native of San Juan, Puerto Rico also totaled 465 digs, which
ranked sixth in the Landmark Conference and a hitting percentage of
.225, which was good for tenth in the conference. Jean
totaled 21 double-doubles throughout the season, including six vs.
conference opponents. Jean’s season high of 23 kills
came in a win over Moravian in early October and was one of three
matches in which she totaled at least 20 kills.
Kristina Purcell earns her second straight selection to the
all-conference team after a season in which she totaled a
league-leading 5.69 digs per game. Purcell’s 478 total
digs led the Cardinals, and she also added 28 aces, 24 assists, 12
kills and a pair of blocks.
Purcell, who missed time during the season due to injury, recorded
22 matches of double-digit kills, including 12 with at least 20 and
two with at least 30. Her season-high came in the Landmark
Conference Tournament semifinals, where she registered 32 in a 3-1
win over Scranton.
The Cardinals finished the 2010 season with a record of
20-14. It was CUA’s third 20-win season in the last
four years.
