Cardinals head to Pa. for Landmark Conference championship

WASHINGTON – The CUA cross country teams will get the championship season underway this weekend when they head to Bethlehem, Pa. to compete at the 2011 Landmark Conference championship.  The races will be held on the campus of Lehigh University, where CUA competed earlier this season at the Paul Short Run.

CUA was last in action on October 15 when the Cardinals traveled to the Gettysburg Invite to compete against a very tough field of competitors.  The men placed 25th and were led individually by freshman Dylan Jones, who crossed in a time of 29:59.41.

The women placed 23rd at Gettysburg and received a 59th place finish from sophomore Camelia Mayfield, who crossed in a time of 25:53.05.

Saturday will mark the Cardinals fifth race of the season, which began in early September at the Albright Invitational.  The men took the top spot aided by a second place finish from George Brewer, while the women finished second behind a first place showing by Mayfield.

Last year’s men’s Landmark champion was Susquehanna, with CUA placing eighth.  On the women’s side, Susquehanna also took the team title, while the Cardinals finished sixth in the team standings.

Mike Puskar was the top finisher on the men’s side, crossing in 26th place, while Madeline Cronan ’11 was the women’s top finisher in sixth place, followed by Mayfield in 12th.

Action on Saturday gets underway beginning at 1 p.m. with the women’s race, followed by the men’s race at 2.
