Lyons Leads Catholic at Landmark Championships

WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America women's cross country team got a top-10 performance from senior Kiera Lyons as she finished eighth overall at the Landmark Conference Championship. The Cardinals finished sixth out of seven teams.

Lyons was one of 11 competitors in the 84 competitor field to finish with a sub 25-minute 6K.

The Harwood, Md., native crossed the line in 24:48.42, as she held off Elizabethtown's Alexis Groce by two and half seconds.

Catholic also got a top-25 performance from rookie runner Tara Thornton who placed 23rd overall with a time of 26:16.7.

The Cardinals' top five was rounded out by sophomore Alex Filiault (35th, 27:32.1), senior Erin McNulty (36th, 27:38.94) and freshman Shannon Griffin (39th, 28:01.93).
