Women's Cross Country Third at CAC
Fisher and Ball both honored
SALISBURY, Md. - The Catholic University women's cross country team placed third at the CAC Championship Saturday morning in Salisbury, Md. The host Sea Gulls won the meet with 28 points while the University of Mary Washington Eagles had 37 points for second. CUA came in with 66 points overall. Despite winning the meet the Cardinal squad was honored with head coach Joe Fisher receiving CAC Coach of the Year honors and freshman Remy Ball (Newton, Conn./Newton) winning CAC Rookie of the Year.
The sophomore duo of Mary Shashaty (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) and Jenna Hackett (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) came in together as the top finishers for CUA. Shashaty took ninth with a 22:53 and Hackett placed tenth running a 22:56.
At thirteenth was Ball who ran a 23:20 and was one of the fastest freshmen at the meet. Tara Wilson (Shelter Island Heights, N.Y./Shelter Island) and Alys Cheatle (Hickory, N.C./St. Stevens) rounded out the top twenty finishers placing 15th (23:29) and 19th (23:45).
Shashaty, Hackett, Ball and Wilson all received All-Conference honors for finishing in the top 15.
CUA will travel to Atlanta, Ga., next weekend for the NCAA Regionals.
