Hackett and Shashaty make All-Invitational Team

LEXINGTON, Va. (Sept. 9, 2006) - The Catholic University Women's Cross Country team took home a second place finish at the 10-team Generals Invite Saturday morning.  With eight runner finishing in the top 25 and seven scoring points, it was a successful day for the Cardinals.

Sophomore Jenna Hackett (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) paced the Cards with a 21:42 which was good enough for a seventh place finish.  Mary Shashaty (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) came in right behind her running a 21:46.  Junior Alys Cheatle (Hickory, N.C./St. Steven's) placed 13th with a 22:21 which ranked her third on the squad.

Other point scorers included Samantha McClellan (Union Town, Ohio/St. Thomas) placing 15th with a 22:31, Teresa Mascia (Stirling, N.J./Watchung Hills) finishing 16th running a 22:38, Tara Wilson (Shelter Island Heights, N.Y./Shelter Island High) at 17th with a time of 22:42 and Remy Ball (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) rounding it out at 20th place running a 23:05.

Washington and Lee was the overall winner with 33 points.  The Cardinals actually tied Roanoke College for second with 59 points, but won the tie breaker since CUA's sixth runner finished better than Roanoke's.

Catholic University will be competing again next Saturday at the NYU Invitational in New York City.
