Women Take Fourth at NYU Invitational

BRONX, N.Y. (Sept. 16, 2006) - The Catholic University of American women's cross-country team had another good weekend by finishing fourth out of 28 teams and 262 competitors at the NYU Cross Country Invitational at Van Cortland Park on Saturday. In one of the most competitive meets of the season, the Cards fared well. 

CUA was led lead by sophomores Jenna Hackett (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) who finished 20th at a time of 20:50 and Mary Shashaty (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) who took 21st with a time of 20:54. This the second week in a row that the pair led the Cardinals to a top finish.

Also contributing were freshmen Remy Ball (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) who came in 42nd with a time of 21:29 followed by sophomore Tara Wilson (Shelter Island Heights, N.Y./Shelter Island High) at 44th with a time of 21:31. Rounding out the point scorers were sophomore Teresa Marcia (Stirling, N.J./Watchung Hills) at 21:38, junior Alys Cheatle (Hickory, N.C./St. Steven's)  coming in at 22:18 and freshmen Angela Montanio (North Potomac, Md.) clocking a 22:23.

The University of Findlay won the NYU Cross Country Invitational who finished their best six in the top 20 of the race.

The women's cross country team will participate in the York College Invitational in York, Pa. on Sept. 23 for their first taste of conference action.
