Cheatle Qualifies for NCAA Championship
Cardinals finish ninth overall
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Alys Cheatle (Hickory, N.C./St. Stephen's) ran her way into the Catholic University record books Saturday at the NCAA South Region Cross Country meet. Cheatle, a senior, finished 13th overall with a time of 23:58 earning all-region honors and a trip to the NCAA Championship, the first for a Catholic University runner since 1991. The Cards finished ninth as a squad out of 28 teams.
Jenna Hackett (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) was the next Cardinal over the finish line coming in at 25:04 for 37th place. Right behind her was Mary Shashaty who was 41st with a 25:19 and Remy Ball (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) at 51st running a 25:36. Samantha McClellan (Union Town, Ohio/St. Thomas) was 69th overall clocking a 26:15 while Bridgette Smith (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) and Sara Meade (Pearl, N.Y./Pearl) rounded out the Cardinal runners coming in at 113th (27:39) and 127th (28:15).
Cheatle will be traveling to the championship on November 17th at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.
