Cheatle Competes at NCAA Championship

NORTHFIELD, Minn.- Senior Alys Cheatle (Hickory, N.C./St. Stephen's) competed at the NCAA women's cross country championship Saturday morning held at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. Cheatle was the lone Cardinal to qualify from the South Region and was the first Catholic University runner to earn a trip to the event since 1991.
Cheatle finished 180th out of 280 participants. She ran a 23:28 for the day which was 30 second better that he regional qualifying time. Sarah Zerzan from Williamette won the event in a time of 20:54. In the team competition Amherst took first.
The Cardinals will lose Cheatle next season but return a solid core of runners in 2008.
