CUA Finishes Third at Generals'
Cheatle places fifth overall
LEXINGTON, Va. - Catholic University women's cross country started the season off right Saturday morning at the Washington & Lee Generals' Cross Country Invitational. The squad took third place overall scoring 61 points. Run against a number of schools in their South Region, the Cards showed why they were picked to finish first in the Landmark Conference this season.
Alys Cheatle (Hickory, N.C./Saint Steven's) led CUA as the top runner for the team and placing fifth overall in a time of 25:18. Coming in right behind her at seven and eight, respectively, were Jenna Hackett (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) with a 25:34 and Samantha McClellan (Union Town, Ohio/Saint Thomas) running a 25:36.
Also finishing in the top 30 of 108 runners were Remy Ball (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) with a 27:31 in 22nd place and Bridgette Smith (Cranbury, N.J.) crossing the line at 28:05 putting her in 29th. Only one newcomer competed on Saturday but Sara Meade (Pearl, N.Y./Pearl) put together a strong performance for her first meet running a 28:57 for the 40th spot.
The Cards will travel to New York City next Saturday to compete in the NYU Invitational.
