Cross Country Competes in Belmont Classic
WASHINGTON- The men's and women's cross country teams were two of 28 teams that competed in the Belmont Classic this weekend.
The women's team placed 3rd overall, and were the top DIII team at the Classic. Leading the Cardinals were senior captain Jenna Hackett (Fort Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins) placed 7th with a time of 20:14.17 in the 5 K, and freshman Katherine Sacker (Catonville, Md./Seton Keough) followed in 9th place with a time of 20:38.88. The team compiled a total of 81 points in the race.
The men's team placed 8th overall at the Classic. Leading the Cardinals was senior Paul Santuoso (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit) who finished in the top 20. His time of 28:30.01 earned him 16th place. Junior Andrew Smith (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton) followed in 28th place with a time of 28:40.45. The men's team garnered 171 points.
The women's team returns to action on October 18 at the Gettysburg Inivational at 11 a.m. The men look ahead to their Saturday, October 11 race at the Juniata Inivational at 11 a.m.
