Cardinal Runners Start Season Strong, Finish Third at Washington and Lee Invitational

Lexington, Va.- The CUA Cardinals Women's Cross Country team started the season strong with a third place finish today at the Washington and Lee Meet. The runners from Mary Washington took home first place with a score of 35. Coming in second was Washington and Lee with 39 points. Catholic's score of 58 earned third place and set them apart from the rest of the competition, as the fourth place team, Mary Baldwin, totaled 127 points.
This meet is a promising start to the season as four Cardinal runners finished in the top fifteen. Katherine Sacker's fifth place finish led the way for the Cardinals. The sophomore from Catonville, Md. finished in a time of 21:26. Junior Madeline Cronan (Denver, Colo) finished not far behind with a time of 21:50. This time earned her ninth place. Finishing in eleventh place with a time of 21:55 was senior Remy Ball (Newtown, Conn.). Rounding out the top Catholic runners was freshman Ashley Surerman (Mahwah, NJ). In her first collegiate race, she placed fifteenth with a time of 22:25.
The Cardinals will look to build on this start next week as they travel to Greensboro, NC to participate in the Guilford College Invitational on Sept. 19th.
