Cardinals open season with second place showing in Va.
LEXINGTON, Va. – The CUA women’s cross country team
opened its 2010 season on Saturday as the Cardinals posted a second
place finish at the Washington and Lee Invitational. CUA
totaled 47 points led by freshman Camelia Mayfield who crossed in
third place with a time of 25 minutes flat.
Other Cardinal runners that posted top-25 finishes on Saturday included Katherine Sacker who finished seventh with a time of 25:36, Madeline Cronan, who crossed in 25:49 and placed ninth, Meghan Dietzler, who finished in tenth place with a time of 25:50, Laura Kinley, who finished in 20th place with a time of 27:35, and Jessica Breen who crossed in 27:43 and placed 21st.
Jamie Dalglsieh (26th), Keely Eckberg (27th), Maggie Senor (33rd), Kathryn Crawford (40th), and Kristen Rayfield (49th) also competed for CUA on Saturday as it opened the season with a strong showing.
Host Washington and Lee took first place on the day with 37 points, and the Generals were followed by CUA (47), Roanoke (57), Mary Baldwin (119), Salem College (148), Southern Virginia (183), Bluefield (209), Randolph College (221) and Averett College (229).
Washington and Lee’s Lauren Schultz took top individual honors as she finished the race in 24:18.

CUA will return to the trail on September 18 when the Cardinals travel to compete in the Maryland-Eastern Shore Invitational. Action gets underway at 10:30 AM.
