CUA places three on Academic All-District At-Large Teams
Three Cardinals received Capital One Academic All-District honors on Friday, with Marc Saxton, Tracey Scanlon and Mary Swarthout being named to the At-Large Teams. The three honorees now move on to the national ballot for consideration as an Academic All-American.

Carroll named one of 10 finalists for Arthur Ashe Jr. Award
Senior Darrell Carroll has been named as one of 10 finalists for the 2012 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award. The finalists were chosen from over 600 outstanding minority student-athletes nominated by their respective institutions. Carroll is the lone Division III student-athlete among the 10 male finalists.

Men's soccer partners with D.C. United's United Soccer Club
On April 19, 2012, the Catholic University men’s soccer team volunteered in the local community at Turkey Thicket Recreation Center in Brookland. The team partnered with D.C United's United Soccer Club.

Swarthout and Ajdari honored at Cardinal Leadership Celebration
On Tuesday, April 17, Mary Swarthout and Yasmeen Ajdari were honored by Catholic University at the annual Cardinal Leadership Celebration. Swarthout received the Marian Award, while Ajdari was the recipient of the John J. Convey Award.

CUA welcomes alumni and special guest to celebrate milestone
On Saturday, April 14, CUA celebrated the 500th career victory of Head Coach Ross Natoli. A number of alumni returned to campus that day and made their way to Talbot Field to join in the celebration. Natoli earned his historic win on April 7 when the Cardinals defeated Stevenson 8-6.

Kinley takes part in Mission Jamaica 2012 during spring break
During CUA’s spring break in early March, junior Laura Kinley took part in Mission Jamaica 2012 as a student leader. This is the second straight year that Kinley had the privilege of traveling to Jamaica and it’s an experience she will never forget.

Woerner receives second straight All-Atlantic Region honor
Junior Jill Woerner was named to the All-Atlantic Region Team on Monday, marking the second straight season she has earned the honor. A third team selection, Woerner led CUA in scoring this season with 13.1 points per game.

ECAC names Grabiak's game-winner its Play of the Week
After receiving nearly two-thirds of the vote, Emily Grabiak’s game-winning 3-pointer against Moravian has been declared the ECAC Play of the Week, it was announced on Thursday. Grabiak’s dramatic trifecta garnered 2,391 votes, good for 74% of the total.

Cordivari named 2011 Melberger Award winner
CUA junior quarterback Greg Cordivari has been named the 2011 winner of the prestigious Melberger Award, symbolic of Division III’s top football player in the nation. The Melberger Award is named in honor of Clifford K. Melberger and has been presented annually since 1993.

Swarthout featured on NCAA site
CUA’s Mary Swathout was recently featured on the NCAA site, in a segment called ‘Getting to know you.’ Swarthout was one of seven field hockey student-athletes from around the country profiled on the organization’s site.

DiMarco driven to be the best
For his entire life, Mike DiMarco has always wanted to be the best, no matter what he was doing. He’s carried that mindset with him into the classroom and onto the soccer field and it’s led him to become one of the top student-athletes at Catholic University.

Brett making an impact for CUA on and off the field
Caitlin Brett has been interested in politics for as long as she can remember. “It seemed as though anytime we had a family gathering, there would be a political discussion and I always found it interesting,” explains the senior, who has five uncles that served in the armed forces.

The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) recently announced that the CUA women’s swimming team has achieved Scholar All-American status for its academic achievements during the 2011 spring semester.

Larson enjoying unique opportunity on international stage
Chris Larson has been enjoying an once-in-a-lifetime experience this summer, playing for the Bahamian National Team in world cup qualifying action. Larson helped lead his native country to a 6-0 victory over Turks and Caicos Islands on July 9 to earn his first career international cap.

Field hockey team volunteers at Special Olympics D.C.
This spring, the CUA Field Hockey team volunteered with Special Olympics D.C. as the organization prepared for its Summer Games. The team assisted with numerous events at Cardinal Stadium, while interacting with the Special Olympics athletes.

Esposito rewarded for stellar pitching performance
After throwing a complete game, six-hitter that helped lift CUA over No. 3 Kean in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional last week, Ron Esposito is this week’s CUA Athlete of the Week. Esposito was brilliant against the Cougars, allowing just one earned run and striking out seven in the 3-2 victory.

After winning conference title, Zemba named Athlete of the Week
After capturing the lone Landmark Conference championship for CUA over the weekend, Matt Zemba has been named this week’s CUA Athlete of the Week. Zemba raced his way to a first place finish in the 400 meters in a time of 50.39 seconds.

After 2-0 showing, Harvey named CUA Athlete of the Week
After going 2-0 for CUA in its win over Susquehanna on Thursday, Liz Harvey has been named the CUA Athlete of the Week. Harvey earned a win at sixth singles for the Cardinals and then teamed up with Caitlin Porter to record a doubles win to close out the regular season.

Peace Players International continues to shine worldwide
Sean Tuohey has certainly become one of the most successful alumni in recent years. Along with his brother Brendan, he founded Peace Players International, a global non-profit organization that uses basketball to unite children and develop leaders in conflicted countries.

Big offensive performance garners Breslin Athlete of the Week
After batting an incredible .615 and helping lead CUA to four straight victories Brendan Breslin is this week’s CUA Athlete of the Week. Breslin collected eight hits in 13 at bats, and also scored six runs and drove in a pair for the Cardinals last week.

On April 13 two members of the Athletics Department were honored by the university. Emily Walker received the Undergraduate Student Employee of the Year Award and Mary Swarthout was honored with the Mary J. O’Dwyer Flynn Memorial Award.

Junior Kelly Carioto is this week’s CUA Athlete of the Week after she put forth yet another impressive performance over the weekend. Carioto posted three top-five finishes at the York Invitational on April 2, including first place in the hammer.

Kramer named CUA Athlete of the Week
After earning a pair of singles wins and a doubles win last week Kyle Kramer has been named the CUA Athlete of the Week. Kramer picked up singles wins vs. Shenandoah and Moravian and he teamed with Jason Quisberth to earn a doubles win against Shenandoah.

Soccer program takes time to give back to area youth
On Saturday, March 19 the CUA men’s soccer team took time to host a group of boys and girls for its third annual Soccer Madness. Men’s soccer alum David Hidalgo ’07 began the program, bringing children throughout the Washington area to learn the game of soccer while remaining active.

Baick set to join Teach for America program
Andrea Baick, of the CUA field hockey program, recently found out that she has been accepted into the prestigious Teach for America program. Baick will get to work beginning in August when she heads to Baltimore to teach secondary mathematics.

Cardinals take time to give back at Armed Forces Home
The CUA field hockey team recently took time out of its busy schedule to visit the Armed Forces Retirement Home. This is the fifth year the Cardinals have volunteered at the home, as they got a chance to decorate for the holidays and visit with the residents.

As senior swimmer Lisa Brooks dives into the pool this year she will be doing so for the last time at Catholic University. Like most senior student-athletes, Brooks has many goals for her final year of competition and there is no “next season” to look forward to.

The CUA womens tennis team is hitting on all cylinders as the Cardinals have raced out to a perfect 7-0 start in 2010. Head coach Dana Dowd has the luxury of working with a team comprised of hard-working upperclassmen and a talented group of newcomers.

CUA field hockey off to sizzling start
Off to its best start ever, the CUA field hockey team has defeated all five opponents it has faced in 2010 and done so in dominating fashion. The Cardinals have out shot their counterparts a combined 92-9 and out scored them 27-0.

Men's Basketball Volunteers at Arlington Cemetery
Each year, a non-profit organization called Wreaths Across America honors fallen U.S. veterans by placing over 100,000 wreathes in more than 300 locations nationwide. The group preaches one message: Remember the fallen; Honor those who serve; Teach our children the value of freedom.

Catholic University Defeats Scottish National Lacrosse Team
While members of the U.S. Olympic team were competing for gold in the worlds largest athletic competition, players on the CUA mens lacrosse team found themselves in a match-up with the Scottish National Lacrosse Team Feb. 18 at Cardinal Stadium.
